I disagree with the assertions in that article. Most significantly that there is no competition in the last mile and that even if there isn't, that government mandated competition will solve anything. Quite simply, the ILECs and the Cablecos are very much in competition with each other. If a CLEC wants to tap this market, they can buildout their own infrastructure rather than leeching off of the incumbents. And they CAN do this. Japan and China are perfect examples of where alternate ways of accessing the last mile are being attempted. One way would be to provide wireless access (WIP) and another is through power companies who also have the right of way into your home. Forcing an ILEC to provide CoLo facilities to their competition and allow them to use their last mile infrastructure goes against every free market bone in my body.
