Pearly,

My point is why don't Europeans clean up their environment and quit complaining about ours.

One exception - France has done a wonderful job over the past 30 years moving the bulk of its electric production to nuclear. The result is a dramatic decrease in pollution and noticibly cleaner air.

I can't find the link at the moment, but if memory serves they have the lowest percentage of power from hydrocarbons of any developed nation.

I think it's the USA governments attitude to pollution problems that causes the ire

We're working on cleaning up our air, Pearly. It's a lot cleaner than it used to be.

The US has much stricter environmental laws and a cleaner environment than just about any other country, Kyoto or not.

Gore really twisted a lot of arms to get other countries to sign on, and then Bush did a 180. That's what makes people mad.
