I was not alluding to Enron. I was thinking more of IBM, where a couple of years ago the suits announced to the workers that the pension plan was converting from defined benefit to cash balance ... and, oh, by the way, if you're over age 45, your pension benefits will decrease by X percent. "That's what we have to do to stay competitive," the workers were told.

Right.

At our plant, the pension plan is administered jointly by the union and management. If the suits want to change the pension plan (as they unsuccessfully tried to do four years ago), the union must go along with the changes.
