I always prided myself at being able to come out of the woods within site of my truck. It's very useful skill for a forester, and also comes in handy for elk hunting. It's not a conscious skill. I get messed up in cities because I navigate spatially, and often wind up in a cul-de-sac, or on a street with no route to my destination. Another thing that messes me up is flying in to a city for the first time at night. If it's cloudy, there's no way to perceive north, which is vital for my brain to navigate.
