I suspect wealthy pro-Israeli financial contributors to Harvard are exerting tremendous pressure on Summers to reign in on freedom of speech and expression.

That could well be happening, jcky, that is large contributors saying such things to him, but I seriously doubt it would lead Summer to this kind of statement. My guess, knowing what little I know about the man, should contributers argue that or threaten that, he would be much less likely to do it. He's cantankerous, so go the stories.

I think he felt that it was important to do what he did. It's just, in my view, a large mistake, one attributed to his still learning the job.
