if I over heard about a book that I wasn't suppose to read

I went out of my way to find it

there was this ancient used book shop on Chartres in the quarter, N'orleans

small, narrow, deep, 12 ft ceilings, bookshelves to the ceiling, cramped isles, rickety ladders, books overflowing everywhere

and a cat, Felix

I would hang there [a pest really], spending hours sitting on the ladders reading, going through the old books

Felix jump out from between books to try and scare me, then hunker down next to me on a shelf and catnap

I usually brought a piece of cheese and an apple [he got the cheese, turned his nose up at the apple]

I can still remember the smell of that shop
