Actually, I think that imperialism was mostly a success, it was decolonization that was a disaster. Not because I think that there should not be eventual decolonization, but because the countries set loose were not ready. I would guess that more people were killed in communal strife around the time that India and Pakistan became independent than had been killed by the Raj in 200 years.......
