You may be a correct, but IMHO, imperialism doesn't seem very compatible with democracy. IMHO, the U.S. was correct in granting nationhood to Cuba and the Phillipines (even if they weren't ready).

Success for who? The imperial powers just got a few centuries of war for their trouble. Those that were colonized got devastation and arbitrary borders for a system they did not need. It's really hard to figure out who you are marking as the winner, maybe Cecil Rhodes? bartleby.com.
