Joel, this really cracks me up. If Gore were in office doing this (trust me, he would in some fashion), you'd be beating the drum in front of the parade!

I am a hapless bystander to American politics... the major parties rarely do or say anything that even faintly resonates with me. Politicians, voters, media - all are engaged in futile narcissism.

Of course politics is never a solution to anyone's problems. Who promised you that it would be? Why do you expect virtue from someone who seeks power?
