Hmm, love to talk politics.

What about Edwards? Well, the general argument that a credible dem candidate needs to be hawkish on the war and take the usual dem positions on the economic issues, and that's what Edwards is doing, in addition to being that jewel of all jewels, an articulate Southerner, might not be as true as it first appears. For two reasons.

First, it's not yet clear that arguing the US should not intervene in Iraq until UN sponsored inspections fail and definitely should not if they succeed, is a losing political argument. If you compare Adam Nagourney's piece in the NYTimes today with a similar political piece in the WP, it's clear "Democratic professonals" are arguing just as the Washington Times piece is, be a hawk on Iraq. But the WP piece offers more political space for a UN argument. And the raft of newspaper editorials over the last several weeks does the same. As well, Blair's bit yesterday seems to underline the go slow recommendations.

So I can see, at least for the moment, that those dems who are arguing for a UN first strategy are not casting themselves into electoral limbo.

Second, as we all know, running in the party primaries is a different matter than running in the general election. And Edwards, or any dem, has to get the nomination first. Gonna, at least right now, be hard to get lots of dem votes in the NE on an attack Iraq immediately platform.

So what do you think?
