I am sure adapting to a mob has some survival value, and not adapting does also. That is why we see both traits in human populations (imo). If the mob decides to go over a cliff, the guy who doesn't go with it, is at an advantage. If the mob turns on everyone who isn't part of it, and kills them all, then the mob and THEIR genes are at an advantage.

I think you can say the same thing for memes on the internet. Because I think on the net, what we have are mobs of memes. Memes that stick together in mobs, and memes that don't. Memes in conflict, and memes that are not in conflict. Because it isn't as if people are fighting here.

It is an interesting subject.

I don't know if people have "true" character. If we truly have free choice then at any moment we can choose to be a different character if we want to be. If we don't have free choice, then the issue of character becomes meaningless (imo).
