Sep 25, 2002 (Ventura County Star - Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News via
COMTEX) -- It's the first thing that catches the eye. In the reception area of
SYS Technologies are numerous framed letters of commendation from a most
important person -- the commander of the Port Hueneme Division, Naval Surface
Warfare Center.

SYS Technologies describes itself as "a company that provides engineering,
management, and information technology consulting services and solutions to
government agencies."

"Ninety percent of the work (for SYS) is with the Navy," explained Senior Vice
President Chuck Vandeveer.

The company was founded by Dr. Lawrence Kavanau in Long Beach in 1966 and is now
based in San Diego with offices in Oxnard, Carlsbad, Colorado and Virginia.

The Oxnard office opened when the company won an engineering contract in 1982
from the Port Hueneme Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center. The contract has
been awarded four times since then. The most recent award to SYS Technologies
came earlier this month -- a $39.5 million, 10-year deal.

In 1991, SYS Technologies was given a management contract from the U.S. Navy.

This project has been awarded twice since then and accounts for approximately 50
percent of the Oxnard office's revenue. Additionally, the company has three
General Services Administration contracts enabling it to provide services to
many government agencies.

When a contract is awarded, the company hires people who best fit the
requirements for specific projects. These jobs come and go, and the company
tries to retain these workers from one project and fit them into other projects
whenever possible.

Vandeveer said the company continually is hiring for specific jobs.

At the Oxnard site, 110 people work full- and part-time. According to Vandeveer,
the employees come from "... all walks of life. Many of them are retired
military, civil service and industry."

Vandeveer, who has been with SYS for 15 years, was in the Navy.

The company deals in several main areas: 43 percent technical, 29 percent
business, 20 percent engineering and 8 percent math/science.

Vandeveer said the competition for contracts has increased, "reflecting more of
a commercial environment."

He has seen the competition go up and down many times, but SYS Technologies
still remains. In 2001, the company had $17 million in revenue, the highest it
has seen. Projected revenue for this year is $23 million, Vandeveer said.

Prior to a proposal, the company has to stay in tune with customers, know what
customers' needs are, and start preparing for the proposal before it hits the
street, according to Director of Contracts Administration Jackie Archibald. "Our
endurance is based on the quality of people who work here.

There is a low employee turnover," said Archibald, who has been with the company
for eight years.

Vandeveer also said SYS is successful on the Oxnard Plain because of "always
providing the best of service at a reasonable cost."

"In the last two years, this company has succeeded in putting together a new
managing team at corporate level and raising new capital to accelerate the
company's growth. I think employees feel confident that we are moving in the
direction to accomplish growth over the next few years."

SYS Technologies is at 1721 Pacific Ave., Suite 210. The company is publicly
traded (OTCBB: SYYS). For more information, visit www.systechnologies.com.
