This headline is not accurate at all. What ASML said the other day was that they still expect to ship 100 units in 2H02 and at least 60 in 1H03. A 15% drop would translate into 85 units, entirely consistent with what was told to analysts days ago, regardless of how it may be reported. That such a story should be misrepresented is grossly negligent IMO.

ASML Sees Lower Shipments in 1st Half 03 Than In 2nd Half 02
Friday September 27, 5:38 am ET

AMSTERDAM -(Dow Jones)- Dutch chip-machine maker ASML Holding NV Friday said that it expects shipments in the first half of next year to be lower than in the second half of 2002.
It also said it will trim its cash spending in the next 12 months to free up funds to lower its outstanding convertible bonds debt.

"Given the conditions of the markets, shipments in the first half of next year could be lower than in the last six months of this year," ASML spokeswoman Beth Kitchener said.

Kitchener wouldn't confirm reports by several analysts that at a dinner with ASML management, the company told them it expects to ship 85 to 90 machines in the first half of 2003.

ASML several days ago repeated its target to ship 100 machines in the second half of 2002.
