<<Greenspan's knighthood is probably a great contrary indicator w.r.t. the good chairman's future popularity.
when i heard he was going to be knighted for his 'contribution to global economic stability' i nearly fell off my chair. the biggest monetary inflationist in mankind's history a contributor to economic stability? it's positively Orwellian.>>

Didn't Merton and Scholes receive the Nobel Prize, the year before LTCM blew up in their faces?<G>

Hello Heinz, thank you very much for dropping in and helping me out with a few facts.

Yes, I wasn't sure what the exact debt figure was because, as you say, it is so big, and also I have seen different figures. Anyway, it's an unbelievable number dwarfing anything seen before and it's only going to get bigger and bigger. One wonders if there is a limit to its expansion or whether can the US continue to print money for the rest of time.

It would certainly seem that the credit bubble is the "engine" that powers the US economy and sustains its empire and when it pops, that will be the end of Humpty-Dumpty.

Thanks for the Buffett refs. I hadn't seen them and it is important to know what the sages of our time have to say.

I agree we are living in very interesting times and I presume, as you imply, because we are cursed.

Hi Heinz..

I saw the Buffet quotes.....(or misquotes) as well

Just amazing....I was particularly struck by the CNN subheading regarding "markets out of sync with the economy"

totally misleading journalism

It is always great to hear from you.....drop in more frequently please
where are you posting these days?

Chris

Heinz:

Where have you been hiding and why haven't I noted your excellent posts providing a welcome breath of fresh air in that CFZ den of thieves and villains? (g)
