Tell me again why Reagan was so great. I keep forgetting. Let's see. When he ran for guv of CA, he promised "NO NEW TAXES!". Well, he kept that. Sort of. What he did do was impose numerous new "fees" in lieu of taxes. And worse, he started payroll withholding of state taxes. Preciously, CAers had paid their state income taxes in ONE CHECK that they sent in along with the tax return. You knew how how much the state gov't cost and how much it hurt. Taking it out in little invisible dabs each week was clearly a set-up for later tax increases. Which is exactly what happened. He signed the withholding law as one of his very last acts just before leaving office. Coward. Shades of Slick Willie.
