And why should it feel good to do something apparently not self- interested? Because we have the capacity to care for things besides our selves. Which means that when we do something aiming at benefiting something or someone else, there is a good chance it is disinterested. However, it is true that one may pervert this by taking inordinate credit, in order to look good to others and raise one's self- esteem.
