Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda Are Not Allies
By DANIEL BENJAMIN

Despite the headline, a nice piece. Pollack makes the same case, that, whatever the connections between Saddam and Al Q, they are extremely unlikely to be ones that entailed joint planning or training for 9-11.

For God's sake, Rascal, think about it! Saddam has been paying the Families of terrorist's who blow themselves up! That alone proves the Headline wrong. His support of other Anti-Israeli terrorists is too numerous to review here. If someone wants to claim that Saddam did not support Al Q, they at least have an argument, but the Headline was too sweeping.

Iraq and Al Qaeda are not obvious allies. In fact, they are natural enemies. A central tenet of Al Qaeda's jihadist ideology is that secular Muslim rulers and their regimes have oppressed the believers and plunged Islam into a historic crisis

The author of these piece blithely ignores the fact that Saddam Hussein has been portraying himself as a pious Muslim, not a secular leader, for the last ten years. Hussein is quite actively trying to out-Islam the Islamists. Not to mention the proved support for Hamas et. al in Israel, and the terrorist training camp in Salman Pak, reportedly full of very pious Islamists from all over the Arab world.

But what the hey, if facts are inconvenient, ignore them.
