That was a wonderful article. Thank you. I didn't know that Bush I's advisors, like Scowcroft, are not for an invasion of Iraq at this juncture <ggg>. And this para is chilling: This time, there's no doubt that the goal of U.S. forces will be to corner and destroy the Iraqi leader and his loyal troops. If they react by firing off what biological and chemical weapons they may have and if U.S. forces or the Israelis respond with a nuclear strike, the chances for violent repercussions throughout the Muslim world would increase exponentially. So would the odds for fundamentalists ousting Musharraf and getting control of Pakistan's nuclear bombs.

Another bitter truth that arrogant leaders have learned throughout history is that war and its unintended consequences can prove to be the ultimate gamble. Yes. Once you get into a major war - and you never know in advance when you've gotten yourself into one - on the other side you will not walk out the door you expected to or intended to. Good piece. It should be required reading in the WH. What he neglects to consider is the other side of the argument: if we wait long enough, Iraq will get nukes. And then all hell is likely to break loose. Given Saddam's past history, do you believe he will EVER agree to real inspections that will actually find his nuclear program? Considering his record?
