A universe can operate much fewer simpler rules if it is not constrained to a predetermined outcome. That by itself doesn't make it so, but it is another indicator.

I don't think one can "successfully" make any scientific argument that god does not exist. I think you do it on philosophical grounds. If god exists and god created the universe and he's all powerful, all knowing, etc. there must be some reason why god created the universe. Any reason implies that god has some character flaw. Which contradicts our notion of god. That logic flows down to the more mundane aspects of religion. Why would god want "religion" or churches? Why would he want "worship"? Is he insecure? God is perfect; humans are way down the scale of perfect. Since we are made in god's image, would we be "pleased" if mice took up worshiping us?
