Hi LindyBill, as a father of three young children, who has a "soccer mom", (that actually coaches a seven year old girls team), racing kids around town all day, your statement seems so true to me. Safety is her (and my) main concern.

Darn right I want them in an SUV. Who wouldn't?

Lindy, it's not really good traffic management to get bigger vehicles to have momentum on one side so they 'win' the crash. SUV vs SUV is as bad as Corolla vs Corolla. Maybe worse [easier rollover - more gasoline for bigger conflagration, more difficult to remove injured people due to tougher frame]. Then there's the opportunity cost in lives due to the greater expense - money spent on one thing isn't spent on something else.

It might be smarter to avoid the collisions by better vehicle control. In the meantime, I can understand people wanting to be the tough one.
