Erik,

I read somewhere that last quarter they had a substantial tax benefit, without which their losses would have been $150 million higher (this is from memory, so don't hold me to the details). Also that the benefit wouldn't be there in the 3rd quarter.

Does anyone know if that is true?

John

Eric: re:If Hammer is good,

Especially with recent developments, thats becoming less and less likely. I'm amazed how this stock has hung in there so long. Mature PC market, ruthless market leader, high fixed cost business, terrible macro conditions, forecasted losses for several quarters, etc.
I think the damn has broken, and we'll see the stock in JDSU, SUNW, LU range soon enough. I usually don't short stocks, but I actually felt comfortable with this one.

Eric,

Re: "It probably means ~($300M) for the quarter's earnings number, with the cash flow
situation being similar ... all the more critical that they hit on all cylinders when
Hammer finally launches."

Eric, AMD can't wait that long ... Hammer is about 3-6 months away from AMD's
bottom line impact. By that time, they will have continued to lose
significant market share. "Red ink" for most of next year ... me thinks.

Make It So,
Yousef

Eric, <the Tench/bmw/Paul/etc. wet-dream death-to-AMD scenario>

I'm not sure why my handle is associated with the words "wet-dream death-to-AMD scenario." Anyone who gets a wet dream out of that scenario really ought to see a therapist.

I think "cold comfort" would more accurately describe my feelings.
