>>Media is over-rated as a cause for PC growth. It's not going to happen<<

Yep -- that was the growth story for telcom buying bandwidth at exorbitant prices -- problem is folks just won't pay what it would cost to have it as dandy as the engineers dreamed ...

ok... thanks, interesting.

Well we have less than a 1% penetration in the existing technologies (video on demand, p2p etc) and I know the VCs are looking at these as high growth drivers for the future. I don't hear too many saying it doesn't matter, nobody wants this stuff- but who knows you may represent the mainstream consumer.

I come from software not PCs so this isn't really religion to me, but those that support intel are looking at this as the next big thing... msft has a big push with DRM too. So if you don't think theres anything to digital content distribution then intel is a sure fire "no there there" company, I can see why you'd short it.

All high end homes today have the following configuration -

DVD/CD/Radio/VCR player in basement/some room serving multimedia to the whole house giving the ability to watch movies/listen to audio on any video/audio outlet in the house and also ability to control the outputs as if the playback device was right there.

People are paying thousands of dollars for such things. The PC is not really there in any of this except in a few homes. If the PC can get into this space, we can make a case for new demand. It may not look like what you see today - however, it will be there.

Do you consider PS2/XBox as something which will cause a new demand for PCs? You may not think so - however, really speaking these are PCs from 3-4 years ago - just specialized devices that's all...

Read your thread and

check your web site. I appreciate your efforts. KaZaa has taken over for Napster, check amount of downloads on CNET. I believe voice activated interactive computers will be the next application to push the next tech surge. Just my 1 and 1/2 cents. regards
