A carrier is better protected and can take a lot more damage without sinking or being disabled.

I'm not saying it could not happen. But it would be difficult and dangerous for those making the attempt. The best bet for those who would want to try this would be to use a sub.

BTW - I think Iraq will be alone at least in terms of heavy military forces. Terrorists groups, rioters in nearby countries, volunteer untrained infantry from other countries all might line up with Iraq but I don't see any of them taking out a carrier.

Geeze Laz, these people have deisle boats. WWII types. You think the US hunter killer nuke subs will let that kind of boat within 100 miles of a carrier?
