Jim,

re: Predictions? Intel has no economic crystal ball. They can project all they want. I have no faith in them.

We were talking about 3Q. Intel said, 3 weeks ago:

Intel expects revenue for the third quarter to be slightly below the midpoint of the previous range of $6.3 billion to $6.9 billion, and within a narrower range of $6.3 billion to $6.7 billion. Microprocessor unit sales are trending toward the lower end of the normal seasonal pattern. The company's flash business is in line with expectations, while demand for other communications products remains soft. All other expectations are unchanged.

AMD is getting their ass kicked. I know you are a 'droid, but face reality.

re: I've told you many times, the only two things holding up this economy are real estate and auto sales at 0% interest.

GDP is expected to grow about 3% this quarter. That's not all real estate and autos.

re: The reason I see the downturn being long and protracted is that Real Estate is relatively illiquid compared to stocks.

Jeez, that's what I was telling you months ago, when you claimed folks were "flipping" real estate.

re: Yeah, sure, I get criticized for taking the negative stance but look what's happened and what's happening.

Are the spooky terrorists still sneaking in over our borders? Do you check under your bed every night before you go to sleep?

John

There's another point. Even if things aren't as bad as you think they are (and personally, I think they are that bad in many parts of the country), there is still a huge problem with the "it's not great but the bottom isn't falling out" scenario as well.

Even at these low levels, Intel (and most tech stocks) are priced as if there were some liklihood of sustained growth from here. I don't see that as being the case. So unless the turn comes soon, I expect to see things continue to grind downwards.

I had a really bad night and missed the > $15 print this morning, otherwise I would have entered a new short at that price. Oh well, I suspect there'll be others. Quite likely we get a good bounce in the morning as Bear Stearns unwinds their "mistake" from this afternoon, and every trader on the street tries to front-run them.

The first hour tomorrow is likely to be as interesting as the last hour today.

"Predictions? Intel has no economic crystal ball."

Intel's ability to predict next quarters numbers have been BETTER THAN ANY COMPANY LISTED ON ANY EXCHANGE and far better than any prediction of numbers in any Florida election within recent memory.

Say, is it possible to short Florida, the symbbol is FLA, I believe.
