MP3 is a terrible codec - it doesn't compress well. None of the mp3s on the web have 5.1 audio, DTS or any of the other high end features. I don't think free is going to cut it. After all, velo does this free thing here - but has a subscription site. Everybody has to make money!!

Hey there Atj... Try blubster (as close to a decentralized Napster as we are going to get) or WinMx. I personally despise Kaaza (riddled with Spyware for a start - get the 'lite' version if you have to use Kaaza though).....

Also MP3's actually sound VERY good nowadays. I would recommend you encoding your cd's on higher bit rates (try above standard 128 - like 160, 256, 320 +) for a higher quality...though bear in mind that also up's the files sizes by about 30%.

MusicMatch does a good job of encoding and is also available free.
