That's certainly not the case with Muhammad, but yes it is with Jesus. Jesus was clearly a historical figure but the gospels were written down decades later so you can assume that the followers made him look better than he was. I mean, we can assume none of the large scale miracles took place, so what else did they make up? I don't know enough on Siddharta Gautama. Of course Moses didn't exist or nothing like the record we have which is from hundreds of years later.

To say nothing of the translation of those 'telephoned' teachings through different languages, and even changes in meanings within a language over time... wonder why they bothered.. must have been pretty special eh?
