Oct. 4 — Six U.S. citizens have been indicted in Portland, Ore., for suspected links to the al-Qaida terrorist organization, NBC News has learned.

THE FBI’S counter-terrorism unit in Portland arrested four of the men Friday morning in the Portland area. One of the six was in Detroit, federal law enforcement officials said, and one was overseas.

The six are accused of signing up to fight against the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks, the officials said.

The charges against the men will include material support to a terrorist organization — the same charge that a group of men in the Buffalo, N.Y., area face.

A federal grand jury in Portland has indicted the six. The case is under seal. U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft is scheduled to discuss the case at a news conference at 1 p.m. ET in Washington. An FBI news conference in Portland is scheduled to follow.

GZ, This might have been posted in the past, but I saw it in an office today. Gen. Norman Schwartzkof was asked if he thought there was room to forgive those that committed, or harbored the Moslem terrorists, that committed the crime of 9/11. The General answered; "I believe it is God's function to forgive. It is up to us to arrange the meeting."
