That is simply not true, imo. Our cultural imperialism could be seen as an extreme danger to a conservative group with values diametrically opposed to the values we are pedaling on the world market. In fact out mainstream culture is seen as very threatening to conservative groups IN this country. Imagine how much more dangerous we would seem to groups in other countries, sending Friends all over the globe, along with notions of democratic values, and women's liberation, and all the other attendant values that are part and parcel of Western Ethos. If you can define danger any way you want to, you certainly should be able to see the cultural danger we pose to alternate systems. I can certainly see how they would feel very threatened by us. I much prefer our system, but I can also see how destructive and corrosive our influence is on fundamentalist, non-democratic, non-progressive systems. I can understand why they might feel we declared war on them first.
