I do not think you intend to defend sociopaths. But the definition of a sociopath is someone who fails to internalize a system of values, and is indifferent to the effects of his behavior on society. So what's that "but" doing there? I know what a sociopath is. I know what "feral" is, too. I have extensive experience trying to socialize feral cats. There is nothing even remotely sociopathic in what I describe. There are just a different approach and a slightly different bottom line in terms of standards and a slightly different society. (I wonder why the SI spell checker doesn't like "sociopath.")

"The only sort of person who is incapable of embarassment, guilt, or shame is a sociopath....." That is unture. Furthermore...some of the most vicious and pathetic bastards in history (and next door) are motivated by their (sense of) guilt, embarassment and shame. BECAUSE these things are all relative...and that is what mental illness is all about...GULP...
