Gregory Meyer Tribune staff reporter Published October 8, 2002, 11:09 AM CDT Prosecutors today filed two new counts of aggravated battery against a 15-year-old Blue Island youth charged with last month's attack of a first-base coach for the Kansas City Royals at Comiskey Park. The allegations, brought in a juvenile petition filed at a Cook County Juvenile Court hearing, accuse the boy of aggravated battery involving insulting and provoking a peace officer, and aggravated battery involving bodily harm to a peace officer. The accusations stem from the teen's confrontation with an off-duty Illinois State Police trooper who was working as a security guard assigned to the Royals dugout during the Sept. 19 White Sox home game when the youth and his father charged the first-base line, authorities said. The trooper sustained "redness and swelling to the face" in the fracas, Assistant State's Atty. Tasha-Marie Kelly said. The teen's father, William Ligue Jr., 34, of Alsip, was arrested and charged as an adult in the incident. The boy previously was charged with two counts of mob action and one count of aggravated battery against Royals coach Tom Gamboa. Prosecutors at a previous hearing withdrew a count of aggravated battery against a peace officer and brought it back today, with different wording and split into two counts. In other action today, Assistant Public Defender Christopher Swanson requested more time to gather evidence in the case, and notified the court that the defense has received video footage of the incident from Fox Sports. Juvenile Court Judge Paul Stralka set the youth's next hearing for Nov. 1. The teenager is being held in the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, Chicago.
