Here's a would-be dictator, probably more paranoid than Saddam.

He has seriously lost it. Not only is the administration responsible for 9-11, anthrax, and the sniper killings, but the CIA is now using polls as propaganda:

Adolph Hitler?

Well, he's in the same league.

Saddam has made the case himself for all who care to see it...

I agree that Saddam has made the case very well. When 'Hitler' comes to mind as an answer, you know you're talking monster.

The question is, what is our smartest strategy for the long run, and what is the least risky way to implement it.

There are sub-questions, too. Like, is our long term concern really simply being sure that Saddam doesn't use WMD on us or our allies? Is it as simple as that? You don't have to be RD to know that that may well not be all there is to the picture. You just have to be skeptical about the notion that the politicians tell the people everything; and if programs are being proposed that seem to entail greatly more risk than the ostensible ends would seem to suggest is necessary to take (because there are less risky ways to attain the ostensible ends), speculation will ensue.

Paranoids like RD of course "know" all sorts of stuff. The rest of us speculate.
