Why was it a false alley? I thought it was interesting. The difference between what is objective and what is subjective is often blurred. It is an area that needs to be taught more in schools, because it is part of critical thinking. If you cannot separate the objective from the subjective, you don't know when you are standing on a rock, and when you are standing on mush- in terms of the strength of an argument. An argument founded on opinion or subjective claims, comes down to opinion in the end. An argument founded on objective criteria can often be settled to everyone's satisfaction by investigating the data.
