One other thing: No one talks about Japan any more. Their market is at a 19-year low, not a 5-year low like ours is. The best performing market over the last year has been Russia, which was beaten down to nearly nothing in the fall of '98.
This whole global economy thing requires an amount of thought beyond my capabilities.

ATML up 35% ( but still under $1...so get it while you can <ggg> )on earnings news....will meet estimates, demand is picking up STRONGLY in several areas, future guidance was very positive and they announced that they have been, and will continue to buy back 100 million shares....oh yea...they are also retiring some of their debt, and their cash went up versus 3 months ago period.....

Anyway, why would atml be buying back their stock, if they were planning chapter 11, or if survival looked iffy? By buying shares, it leads me to believe that management thinks the future looks bright and they will be here to enjoy it....no guarantees...but I certainly cant see why ANY company would buy back their own stock if they knew things looked bad...they would dump like everybody else...not buy.

<<They all seem to think, "Prosperity is just around the corner." Sig remembers that one, I'm sure>>>
PB:
You could expand that statement to cover most of our aspirations and problems
It is what keeps things running tho
Aerospace workers waiting for that next big contract, after which every lead engg becomes a Supervisor with red badge.
Csco, after buying 50 more companies, and then maybe the stock will rise again
Three years to go to retirement when all problems are solved and SS provides a reliable income with a COL increase every year. (dream on)
I hate to think what HPQ /cpq.tan/ Dig/ etc.is dreaming up now to bring the stock price back up.
They will probably buy Gateway ( hahahahahaha), since acquisitions have worked so well for them in the past (G) Worked well for a couple of Executives and their salaries and options grants, but terrible for shareholders.and lower level people.
I have been waiting and waiting for Geacf with a P/E of 4 to go back up so I could invest more in in other stocks
Maybe next week, or next month we will find that little 'ol tech stock that will start up and keep going up.
Its probably right under our noses, may even own some at this moment, but its impossible to separate the good from the bad in this stinking churning rotating market
And I forgot, as soon as the IT spending rises again all will be well.
There is always hope.......
