I would expect far less enthusiasm in Iraq to the American forces,

Oh, we will be ready for whatever comes. Just remember what Bernard Lewis pointed out a while back. ME Governments have populations that take the opposite viewpoints of their Governments. If the Government hates us, the people like us, and vice versa.

You may find that the people of Iraq are a little less oppressed

Say what? the Iraqis are far more oppressed than other Arabs. They live in a totalitarian police state, where neighbors spy on neighbors and anybody who even makes a joke the regime doesn't approve of disappears in the night. The oppression of Iraqis is just a little more equal opportunity than the Taliban's oppression of Afghans -- it hits men and women equally -- but it makes up for it by being more efficient.

They've hated the US because of the nonstop propaganda against us as well as we dropped bombs on their cities where a ragtag group of poorly trained soldiers hid among innocent civilians who were also killed It probably doesn't look to the Iraqis that we have any love for them or consider them to be human. As we have seen on this forum, a certain ahem has suggested that beating them to death (so as not to waste bullets) is a good idea. Furthermore, his argument that anyone suggested the Afghani people would fight tooth and nail is wrong. Most said the citizenry would welcome US intervention and release from the religious oppression. Over and over warnings came that the "Taliban" and al qaeda cells and cavedwellers would fight to the last man, which men we took out pretty quickly.
