I think when it is the lead story on CNN, there is a problem. More important things are going on in the world and in the US- IMO. This is news because it is sensational, and by going with things sensational, we play into the hands of people who seek fame with sensational acts. I have always thought it was a poor way to focus the news media of this country. In fact, I find it highly immoral- and of course I speak only for myself, I don't think anyone has a duty based on my sense of what is moral, nor would I force anyone to live in the "moral style" I imagine. But sensationalism of these kinds of things strikes me as immoral- especially if we have a duty not to be ignoramuses. I would think you would see that we are wasting valuable print and TV space to material that is not educational, and that merely excites.
