My belief in the solution hasn't changed, though. Crush Hamas and terrorism, free Palestine, and stop the Israeli settlements. And not necessarily in that order. ;-)

Tenchusatsu, I pretty much agree with your perspective but I wanted to point out that the Hamas are not just a terrorist organization.......they raise money for hospitals, participate in community projects, and run candidates for political office......I think their party is called the Palestinian Republican Party....a branch of the American Rep. party? <g> Seriously, they do run candidates for office.

So when you talk about crushing them remember that in the eyes of many Palestinians, the Hamas have a kind of legitimacy. Therefore, while I don't know how you resolve the issue of their many crimes, crushing them may not be the way to go.

Tenchusatsu,

it seems my view of the Israeli-Palestine conflict changes with the seasons. I've always suspected in the back of my mind that Arafat is not in control of things over there.

His control depends on what he does. When he is negotiating peace with Israel, he loses support popular, when he is working hand in hand with terrorists, he regains it. So, apparently, he keeps repositioning himself, so that at the very minimum, he continues to be the nominal leader of the Palestinians.
