Tim, of course not........however, when does something become his responsibility, two years after his term ends?
Two and extent yes. Alot of what presidents do takes effect later.

But also to a large extent it isn't his responsibility at all. The president only effects the economy at the margin unless he does something drastically bad, or perhaps if he stops a previous drastically bad practice.

Tim, I disagree on both counts......the president term begins the day he is sworn in......if shit falls on the day after, that's the new president's bad luck.

As for the economy, there is a lot more the president can do besides raising his arms into the air and looking confused. Some are small, some are large; some are substantive, others are psychological.

He can do things with the budget and work with Congress so that monies are redirected into labor intensive projects, promote American products like Clinton did with BA in China; talk up the economy every chance he gets; work with Congress to extend unemployment benefits; promote research in the development of new products; meet regularly with national corporate types to pass legislature that's most beneficial to corporations and will stimulate new jobs; works with Greenspan and the Treasury to keep the dollar low in value so that there is a demand for our products; installs a Secretary of the Treasury that's more in tune with the nation......the list is endless.

The president sits at the top of the largest and most productive economy at the world with billions at his disposal......so please don't tell me he has no impact. He may not be able to act unilaterally but he can act nonetheless.
