RE: the energy giant enjoyed much closer ties with Clinton Administration regulators than was generally known

So Bush and Cheney were only 80 times closer to the energy industry than Clinton - instead of 100 times closer?

So far, when subjected to the same kind of scrutiny that Clinton and Gore were subjected to, republican Senators and congressmen have been caught sleeping around as often as the Democrats.

But, you are certainly correct that Clinton was very supportive of business in this country, as are Democrats in general - they know how jobs are created. But Democrats are also aware that if you suffocate the other 80% of Americans with higher taxes, the businesses don't have anyone to sell to - and that's something the Republicans just can't seem to figure out.

So, expanding on the point you made, Democrats consider themselves to represent all parts of America, while Republicans seem to think that only the wealthy are worth consideration - the rest of America can rot, in their opinion. Unfortunately, as the Republicans are finding out, if most of America's citizens are denied a chance to participate in the nation's success, then the rich end up in trouble, too.
