[H]ow many people even know about Tarot cards, much less that there is a Death card in them...?

What's your point?

First, I can think of a number of references to Tarot cards in pop culture over the last couple of years; that said, no - they aren't "popular," but certainly their existence, like that of Ouija boards and such, is known by virtually anyone with a high school education.

Which, in turn, as I said, makes an investigation of those few places retailing them, and perhaps the recollection of the cashiers/proprietors of those individuals who'd recently made purchases, more likely to be fruitful.

And how many military or other "shooters" work with Tarot cards...?

Again: I'm not sure how that refutes - or even addresses - the point I made. Rather, I believe it suggests that you didn't actually read my post.

First of all, no professionals "work" with Tarot cards, except perhaps for fortune tellers - if you consider such a "profession." But having spent time in the military, I can tell you unequivocably that atheism, agnosticism, or devout strains of Christianity were the grossly predominant spiritual outlets.

It's not impossible that there are occultists in the military, but I feel far more justified in taking the shorter leap by speculating that this individual acquired the card to advance his mystique and heighten fear rather than that he's Wiccan or something.

The disciplines - shooting and witchcraft - don't jive well, IMO.

BTW, there is an article in Newsweek (see Drudge today) that says snipers work in pairs....

No kidding. So what?

The second person in a military sniping team is a spotter. No, I'm more inclined to believe that this is a single, lone gunman, rather than a team, after this many shootings. As Shootie said earlier, it'd be really hard to imagine ideologies so deep in hatred that not only would the two link up, but that they'd not have come into conflict after this long, much less after shooting a child.
