There is a remarkable difference between the attitude of the first Christians in relation to the Parousia and that of Christians now, especially since 1830 AD when this new philosophy of pre-tribulation rapture became popular. Obviously, the same event cannot be imminent at two different periods separated by nearly 2000 years, There must be some grave misconception on the part of those who maintain that the Christian Church of today occupies precisely the same relation, and should maintain the same attitude, towards the 'coming of the Lord' as the Church in the days of St. Paul. Your eschatology seems to prefer literal meaning so I shall prove, using the Word of the Lord that all things were fulfilled in 70AD. Luke 21:20, 22 "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies...this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. This statement by Christ included the Old Testament and Daniel's 70 weeks of years. and all of Isaiah and his coming of the "new heavens and a new earth. Whether you recognize it or nor, this is the plain, literal meaning of these words of Jesus. I have dozens of prophesies made by Jesus and the apostles that the Church has deemed as inspired so I doubt that you reject that. We also may find pertinent information from Josephus, the General of the Jewish army who wrote concerning the "War of the Jews" and many other things who testifies along with the temple priests that thundering chariots and leagues of angels thundered across the night sky at one time in a thunderous voice saying, "Let us go thence!" Today, Christ has freed me from the bondage of the traditions of man and has allowed the Holy Spirit to be my teacher. I have NEVER known such joyful release from doctrine that does not fit and that has caused much loss of power within the Church. Today's economical, financial problems and division among brothers and a weakening of the Church to hear their voice in the political realm has all but gutted the United States and has, I fear put us under God's severest judgment. It is my opinion that the loss of credibility and power within the Church is the false and watered down teachings of the rapture in every generation since this apostate doctrine was spread throughout the evangelical church. The Jews are laughing, The Islamic faith is gaining many converts because of this very teaching of Parousia delay. The agnostic books written concerning this very subject, that Jesus was a false prophet because his prophesies were not fulfilled, according to you and your doctrines, has caused many to doubt instead of a relationship with the true God of all creation, the Saviour of the world, Jesus the Christ. The "sweet bye and bye, pie in the sky" promises that are routinely changed when the rapture fails to materialize is no doctrine taught in the Bible. I enjoy your fellowship, and this is nothing personal against you. I appreciate the fellowship with you. James
