Evidently you weren't following the same conversation I was.

It was all about the relationship between ethics and air-conditioning (I swear I'm not making this up). One of our threadmates was explaining how Northern European countries were historically more ethical than countries further south because their climate was cooler. The heat in southern climes lends itself to greater corruption and acts of lawless desperation. The advent of air-conditioning in modern times has tended to ameliorate this tendency somewhat, however.

I speculated that according to this theory, Canada could safely be predicted to be a highly ethical country, while the United States would presumably prove itself progressively more and more lawless and corrupt the closer you get to Texas. Ergo, air-conditioning is the only thing separating the state of Texas from the state of wild anarchy, as is apparent from the behavior of its native politicians.

Anyway, I was just mulling all this over when seeing one of your posts suddenly made me wonder if there can be such a thing as ethics in outer space if there's no such thing as North. Maybe air-conditioning provides a reasonable substitute and is sufficient on its own to promote ethical behavior. I have no idea, personally, of how pervasive either ethics or corruption may be in outer space, and you just seemed to be the natural person to ask at the time.

No offense intended.
