The so-called "context" of the settlements requires consideration of the inescapable fact that Barak offered to take 95% of them down not very long ago.

The so-called "context" begs for a rational explanation of why such an offer was refused.

Don't hold your breath.

The heck it does... You have missed the forest for the trees.

Nope, Hawk. You see the context from a Sharon point of view. I won't call it an Israeli one simply because my guess is there are more than multiple ones. You need to see them from some Palestinian points of view as well; not drop your Sharonian point of view; just see there are some you've not yet taken into account. And see the anger of the folk whose lands and homes have been taken away by new settlements over the years.

Factor that into your observations here about the settlements from a Sharonian point of view. And then think about the end game.

It would also help if you had a harder time finding the caps lock key.

Re: Had Arafat TRULY been interested in creating a Palestinian State and obtaining control over the remaining territory on the West Bank and Gaza, he would have AVOIDED provoking Israel, and met all of their demands for decreasing tensions in the territories and eliminating extremist groups.

Lick the hands of the occupier and hope for crumbs, you mean? :)
