Hmmmm....so you're saying that if used as a pistol, the range would have to be less than 150 yards, or the shooter would have to be exceptionally good (or exceptionally lucky).

Of course, I suppose also that a pistol makes less noise. In one of the gas station killings, a witness thought what he heard was a car backfiring. What if the shooter's taken some shots that missed, and no one realized they were shots? If he's using a single shot gun, or has imposed a single shot "rule" on himself, he wouldn't have another chance with that victim...

It does sound as if the rifle would be a better choice, though...
