Because I was told that the printer drivers in the new Dell PCs have changed since I bought my HP, and they won't work with that HP.

That's funny. Even if Dell managed to pull all the HP drivers off their boxes, you can always download them. My guess is you were lied to. I've got a six+ year old inkjet that works just fine with the XP-Home box I bought my kids.

Someone with more technical knowledge can probably tell you what's slowing things down, too.

DELL may have removed the HP drivers from the software-- no big deal as HP & everyother mfg will allow you to download it from their site or send a disk. There should be no 'warm up' or take long. HP help (or any other) can see how many & what kind of printers are loaded. Then see what kind of hook-up you have. P or USB. In my case P is faster as there is another printer, web cam, scanner, dig camera, dig video, & panasonic 3 in 1 hooked to the same box.
Additionally, while it is thinking you can minimize & go onto other things-- you will like your new 'puter,, Luck
