David,

People who assert that the wealthy are able to shelter their income are showing their ignorance of tax law.

Agreed. It is next to impossible to do. There is an overwhelming evidence showing that the top income earners pay a huge percentage of total taxes collected -
top 5% of taxpayers pay 55% of all income taxes,
top 10% pay 66%
top 25% pay 83%
top 50% pay 96%

But as you know, liberals need something to sustain their in their beliefs, and if it takes a lie, so be it.

And it is even more ridiculous when they start claiming that a tax cut goes to the rich. If the bottom 50% of taxpayers pay only 4% in taxes, meaning they pay only 4 cents of every dollar, which rounds down to almost zero.

Which by the way, I think is an outrage. Half of the population is not asked to contribute almost anything to running of this country. I think all should contribute, even if it is only a symbolic amount, say 1% rate on every dollar earned, no exemptions, deductions etc. I think paying something, even if the amount is symbolic, would give all people a stake in this country, in the way it is run.

Joe
