But why should we judge religions by their extremists.

Are we judging Islam by a few extremists or is Osama Bin Laden a hero to millions and possibly even billions of Islamists. I think the latter. The fall of the Trade Towers was met by cheering and dancing in the streets in much of the Muslim world. Even the Muslims who freely come over here to take advantage of our educational opportunities and free enterprise system did not have the gumption or balls to stand up and condemn the September 11 attack. When an extreme Christian murders one doctor peforming abortions is their widespread dancing in the streets by mainstream Christians? Hardly. The perverseness associated with Islam goes well beyond a few outlying extremists in my opinion. The religion is closely associated with some of the most dysfunctional cultures of the modern era. And when you are speaking about treatment of women, you forget to mention the not so rare practise of forced sexual circumcision.

MM, its not Islam. The problem is that not enough Muslims practice Islam.

If more Muslims practiced pure Islam, I'd be very afraid. Be VERY careful what you ask for:

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)
"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:29)
"The Christians say: The Christ is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them." (Sura 9:30)
"Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home." (Surah 9:73)
"The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until the Moslems make war against the Jews and kill them, and until a Jew hiding behind a rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: 'Oh Moslem, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'" (Sahih Bukhari 004.52.176)

How does the Christian president, without any mandate from Congress and with the slimmest electoral mandate imaginable reinvent our foreign policy doctrine?

Last I checked, he has a strong resolution from both houses of Congress that was even stronger than the one his father had to fight Iraq. By law, as our Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the President does not have to consult with Congress to go to war. Bush has gone out of his way to let everyone debate the matter. As far as the pre-emptive strike foreign policy, what do you expect? Should we sit around on our hands and HOPE that the Muslims extremists will join the rest of civilization? I say after 9/11, hell no. Let's stamp them out. I refuse to live in fear.

As far as the comment that the Republicans waited on Iraq to politicize the issue, I think that's laughable. That's like the pot calling the kettle black. Both parties are very guilty of politicizing anything that will win them seats in Congress. Now that the President is popular because he has enormous clarity about the problem we face, the Democrats will do anything to discredit him. Name one contribution that Daschle has made during Bush's administration. Daschle is a do nothing Democrat.

You talk about how we slaughtered the American Indians...yes, that was tragic. But that was centuries ago. Why does everyone bring up things that happened centuries ago to compare it to a religion that is promoting murder today? The U.S. learned from our mistakes with the Indians and the Afro-Americans and we have come a long way to righting those wrongs. The Islamic people have regressed. They once had a great nation, now they just have a bunch of murderers running around whom they hero-worship.

As far as me making these statements to purchase my own righteousness, you couldn't be further from the truth. There are MANY people out there who are better human beings. But one thing I am not is a murderer and I don't condone terror for any reason, not when we do it, not when the Israelis do it, not when the Palestinians do it.

But I'm a realist. I know that you can't sit on your hands and hope that Osama will go away. Because he won't. If we pulled out of the Middle East, do you really think he'll stop attacking us? If so, you must be like that little skinny kid at school who thought if you just paid the bully off today, he'll leave you alone tomorrow. Pull your head out of the sand, Tom.

One thing people forget is that Osama and most of his followers were good friends of the US and on CIA's payroll during the 80s when the Soviets were in Afghanistan. Pentagon had already planned to attack Afghanistan in oct 2001 regardless of 9/11. It's a fight to monopolize central asia's oil reserves.
