LOLOLOLOL! I see. Unless someone goes out of his way to publicize it, how is it going to matter at all? And if there were no shame attached, at least, why would the person assume anyone else would care? Also, you are relying upon punishment, or the threat of punishment, through ostracism, supposing you do publicize it. Is that better than giving the person a good dressing down? especially if it affects his livelihood? Man oh man.....

A rational person recognizes that thievery is a sub-optimal approach to life. This may take a few lessons or some explanation, but then that's what mothers' knees are for.

Not all people are irrational and even the rational get an extra level of deterence from actual punishment.
