Tim, they occupied the Sinai during the 6 day war and then, the UN ordered them to give it back to Egypt. I don't see that as a major concession.

The UN tells Israel all sorts of things most of which are ignored because Israel is a sovereign state that sees itself as risk and sees the UN as not supporting its interest. Sinai provided Israel with a great strategic buffer against Egypt but finally enough trust had been built that Israel could give it up. It was a big concession.

And Sharon has said publicly that Israel will never give up the occupied territories......Gaza and the
WB.

Which is not surprising considering he is somewhat of a hard-liner and also that when Israel did make concessions (moving out of Lebanon, making offers much bigger then anything offered before to the Palestinians ect.) that violence increased. If the Palestinians can be peaceful for years they may build up enough trust that Israel will again offer to give up a lot of territory, maybe even more then before, but every time a bomb goes off it at the best pushes the date where this can happen back, at worst pushes it closer to never happening at all.
