Attacking Iraq will not make a difference in their strategy but it will vastly multiply the number of recuits to the cause.
And a large number of those recruits will be CIA, British special forces, French and Australian secret services etc., etc. Allah is not necessarily the only motivator. Vengeance and money and love of freedom are just as good motivators, and there are many family who lost relatives in the twin towers and the pentagon that might like a chance to get even.
We'll cut off the terrorists funding, and their above the murk resources like Iraq,...then we will assassinate them one by one. There will be no place for them to rest or hide. We have a lot of knowledge in how to deal with thieves and murderers after all, we have dealt with bandits, highwaymen, pirates, outlaws, and gangsters for centuries,...just a matter of time.
The mistake they made was attacking the homeland and people and relatives of the wealthy, the powerful, and the common free man and woman,...never a smart thing to do. Much better to keep these groups divided, but the threat of weapons of mass destruction (like planes hitting skyscrapers) or an atomic bomb pushed up their arse brings them together,...and no bandit can outrun a unified group of powerful, wealthy, free nations,...with their own atomic bombs and the money to hunt terrorists down.
It ain't about oil, and it ain't about Israel, anymore!...it's about freedom and safety from violence,...with a bit of vengeance thrown in for spice.
Really think it's the oil?,...chit, if we really wanted to we could dam every river in North America, or liquefy natural gas all over the world and transport it by ship to us, or tap the huge tar sands and shales, or generate tonnes of hydrogen by running electrical generators full blast in off peak hours, etc., etc.,....if we had to we could be self sufficient in energy, but others want to sell us really cheap oil and gas presently.
Which is cheaper?,...war with Iraq and other terrorist nations for a decade or so,...or weaning ourselves off the foreign oil and gas and ignoring the middle east. I'd say the latter, but do you really think ignoring that part of the world now will stop the terrorist's jealousy, or stop the domination of one group of people by another, or stop them from trying to take a swing at us eventually? I think it would do the exact opposite,...we did initially ignore Hitler,...didn't we?
This isn't about oil and gas,...and most of us could care less about Israel,...this is about freedom from terrorist threat like El Qaeda George,...it's about freedom from domination, freedom from prosecution, freedom from terror violence and death, freedom from thieves and murderers. It's about freedom from the bully who wants to dominate and terrorize us.

Some moslems dominate other moslems,...and cowardly blame the west to divert attention away from themselves. Stupid ignorant people believe it. El Qaeda is one of these groups of stupid people. Their bitch is with their own, not with us. They picked the wrong target,...and now they are going to pay for their ignorance, stupidity and cowardice.
The Palestinian issue is a small part of the problem in the middle east. Most middle east governments don't seem to want the Palestinian problem solved. If they did they would make them citizens of their own countries like western nations do. The problem for these middle east nations is, that if the Palestinian issue is solved, then attention will switch to their own corrupt dictatorships. What is it really about George?,...why do so many of these moslem governments really support terrorists, intolerance, anti west, anti jew, anti education, anti women's equality, anti television, lack of equality, cast systems with royalty etc., couldn't be a form of slavery could it?
