an important issue....I am a libertarian (small L), so generally object to anything that gives the gov't more power over the U.S. citizens.

Using military assets for homegrown crime is not ok with me.

But if the evil canadians decided to stretch their imperialistic claws toward the U.S. and made an incusion on U.S. soil, I would expect the U.S. armed forces to operate on our soil. But only against the evil invading canadians.

If this sniper is a foreign national who belongs to a group that declared war on the U.S. (as Bin Laden has), that is where I consider it kosher for the military to get involved.

However, without definitive identification of the sniper(s) as foreign nationals waging war on the U.S., I think that it sets a very dangerous precedent. Once the gov't encroaches on our rights and their limitations, they are very reluctant to discontinue the activity.

*to our Canadian friends, just kidding.

Long live Terence and Philip

Once one of "theirs" gets hit, all stops get pulled. It's the same as when a cop gets killed. They take it personally and will justify whatever means it takes.

There's not too many of you who will remember the freedoms lost during WWII. Gas rationing, sugar rationing, no new cars. There were neighborhood wardens who stopped you if you were out after curfew. Japanese citizens were imprisoned and all their worldly goods confiscated - and never given back.

It's a desperate precedent but it's also desperate situation.

The murdering of citizens and terrorizing entire cities to the point that kids can't play outside and normal life can't go on, requires extraordinary solutions.

Let them have their drones and spy planes if that'll catch this guy(s).

I just hope they don't kill him first and deny Bubba a little fun in the shower.
